Thursday afternoon, former Oregon standout Brianne Theisen wrapped up her heptathlon at the Canadian Olympic Trials. She set a personal best in the long jump en route to claiming a spot on Team Canada in London.
Theisen travelled 20-9/6.32m on her only attempt in the long jump before throwing 141-6/43.14m in the javelin. She ended her day with the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:16.07 to secure a second-place finish overall. The Humboldt, Sask., native scored 6,393 points, finishing second to Jessica Zelinka (6,599 points) who broke her own Canadian record.
Theisen is now the sixth former Duck to qualify for the London Olympics, and the second non-American. She joins her fiance Ashton Eaton (decathlon), Becky Holliday (pole vault), Cyrus Hostetler (javelin) and Galen Rupp (10,000 meters), and Australia’s Zoe Buckman (1,500 meters).
