Freshman sharpshooter Brett Kingma has decided to transfer from the Oregon basketball program, according to a report from The Daily Herald.
Kingma, a native of Mill Creek, Wash., appeared in 19 games during his freshman season, averaging 3.1 points and shooting just .309 from the field despite coming in with a reputation as a razor sharp three-point shooter. According to the Daily Herald report, he was granted a release from his scholarship earlier this week and should enroll at a different school this fall.
Should Kingma move on to another Division I program, of course, he will have to sit out a year before returning to the court. His departure marks the third this year from Dana Altman’s program, following the footsteps of fellow freshman Jabari Brown and Bruce Barron.
Though fellow Oregon guards Garrett Sim and Devoe Joseph also depart due to graduation, the Ducks will still be able to rely on the presence of soon-to-be junior Johnathan Loyd and incoming recruits Dominic Artis, Willie Moore and Devon Branch.
