One in 10 people worldwide believe the Mayan calendar suggests the world could end on Dec. 21, 2012, according to a poll done in May for Reuters.
Whether you’re one of that 10 percent and want to celebrate your last day on Earth or you just want an excuse to dance, here is a list of events in Eugene and Portland to keep you partying like it’s 1999:
Eugene
—Dawn of a New Age, WOW Hall: This event focuses on the positive view of the Mayan calendar — the transition into a new age. The night is winter-themed and features music to dance all night to. Upstairs is open to minors and downstairs is 21+. 9 to 2 p.m., $10 at the door.
—Not the Apocalypse!, Diablo’s Downtown Lounge: Features Andy Andrist Ruins Christmas comedy show at 9 p.m. downstairs for $5 then a “metro-retro” dance night with De Solution band playing upstairs at 10 p.m.
Portland
—THE END, Refuge PDX: An end-of-the-world party with plenty of dance music and at least 16 different DJs to help celebrate the night. First 100 tickets are $12, general admission is $15 and VIP is $50. The event is 21+ and starts at 9 p.m.
—End of the World Party, Jones: With games, prizes, food, drinks and dancing, this event is sure to keep you from thinking about the fate of the world. $10 cover charge, starts at 7 p.m.
—End of the World Party, Rotture: Another opportunity to dance through the night, featuring five different DJs to keep you moving. $7 cover charge, 21+, starts at 9 p.m.
—Ride to the End of the Earth: Bike from Portland to Vancouver then back again in this unique opportunity. A dance party will be held at Velo Cult Bicycle Shop with great music and beer. Ride starts at 12 p.m. and party starts at 7 p.m.
—End of the World Ride and the Last Party on Earth, MotoFactory PDX: For those who prefer motorcycles to bicycles, Dec. 21 gives the opportunity for an apocalypse-themed bike ride in Portland. The ride ends with a costume contest, prizes, beer, an art show and music. Ride starts at 8:15 p.m. and party starts at 9 p.m.
—The Beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse, CC Slaughters: Celebrate with “Portland’s premier gay nightclub and martini lounge,” which goes zombie-themed for this night. There will be plenty of dancing and the event will feature Damien Zari from Zari Art for airbrush art in the zombie style. Starts at 9 p.m.
—End of the World, Fez Ballroom: Featuring DJ Gigahurtz and DJ Lusciouz on the main floor and DJ Lusciouz at the Ladies Champagne Lounge, this event is for those who want to party downtown in a vibrant, modern atmosphere. Starts at 9 p.m.
