The New York-based
Found Footage Festival
comes to Eugene tonight at 8 p.m. at the Bijou Theater, where a series of mostly unknown videos featuring strange and funny real-life characters will be played for the enjoyment of film-lovers. Featured videos must abide by two simple rules: they must be on a physical format (no YouTube, for instance) and they must be funny by accident — unintentional humor is the name of the game for this annual film tour.
Nick Prueher, who has worked on shows such as the Late Show with David Letterman, and Joe Pickett, a former writer for The Onion, founded the festival in 2004 after 13 years of collecting strange and unique videos from garage sales, thrift stores, antique shops and the like, and narrowing them down to an hour and a half of the best.
This year, Prueher and Pickett will be hosting the premiere of Volume Six of the Found Footage Festival. New additions to look forward to include an exercise tape entitled “The Sexy Treadmill Workout,” an overenthusiastic craft video about sponging borders and a Vancouver-based video called simply “Hand Made Love.”
Tickets cost $10 at the door or at the Found Footage Festival website. The tour ends in April 2013.
