@@names checked@@It took nine games, but the Ducks’ women’s basketball team finally picked up their first win of the season Sunday, beating the Fresno State Bulldogs, 65-64.
Oregon scored on a putback by freshman Jillian Alleyne with nine seconds left in the game and came up with the game winning stop at the other end of the floor. She once again led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting. The freshman from Fontana, Calif., has been one of a few bright spots for Paul Westhead’s team up to this point in a season ravaged by injuries to key players.
The Ducks also got an outstanding effort from center Megan Carpenter, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. She had a perfect shooting game — going 4-for-4 from the field, including two from beyond the arc — and converted her only two free throw attempts.
Up next for the Ducks include the Portland Pilots on Friday night in Portland and then a New Years Eve tilt with perennial powerhouse University of Connecticut, when Liz Brenner is expected to make her 2012 basketball debut just weeks after going to the NCAA championship final with the women’s volleyball team.
