Did you know it’s possible to exchange useless pop culture trivia for free prizes?
Eugene offers several fun trivia nights where you can do just that.
David Stark, manager of the Eugene City Brewery said Friday trivia night is the Brewery’s busiest night of the week.
The Eugene City Brewery is located at 844 Olive St. and its trivia show starts at 8 p.m.

The Brewery has utilized the talents of trivia guru Mr. Bones and his traveling trivia show for three years.
“It’s pretty intense,” Stark said. “It’s free to play and there are great prizes.”
Stark said the level of difficulty varies and the questions are all over the board.
“There are some I know and some there is no way in hell I could answer,” he said.
The use of iPhones during the game has become a growing problem, Stark said, but it’s hard to combat.
“We really can’t battle that,” he said. “We’re not going to ruffle any feathers by kicking people out for using an iPhone.”
Max’s Tavern has the most well-known trivia night in Eugene. On Tuesdays, the small bar is always packed with locals.
Max’s is located at 550 East 13th Ave. and its trivia game starts at 8 p.m., but seats start filling up at 7 p.m.
E. Geek, the trivia game’s host, said Max’s trivia night is all about teamwork.
“That’s the cool part,” he said. “I like the conversations the topics start amongst the teams.”
E. Geek said the tavern’s trivia reputation helps remind people that it is a place that stimulates creative thought.
“One of the reasons we started trivia is we wanted to remind people that it’s a creative joint,” he said. “It’s not a meat market. We come to Max’s to think and talk.”
E. Geek also said that Max’s recently changed the length of its trivia game. Now there are two rounds (instead of three) and one super bonus round.
Leona Laurie hosts a trivia night every Monday at the Villard Street Pub.
The Pub is located at 1417 Villard St. and trivia lasts from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Laurie, who had to persuade the owners for a year to let her host, brought her love of random facts all the way from the Bay Area.
“I was on a pub trivia team there and I loved it,” she said.
Laurie was also drawn to trivia because she knows a lot of know-it-alls and show-offs.
She believes trivia night at the Villard Street Pub is the best in town because there are a lot of prizes, it stays on a tight schedule and the Pub offers a wide variety of food.
“It’s more difficult to justify spending time on a week night at a bar without having a meal involved,” Laurie said.
“It’s a mild enough commitment that it can fit into anyone’s schedule the way other social events during the week cannot.”
Laurie will only be hosting trivia night for another four weeks. It has been so popular, though, that Villard Street Pub is going to continue the new Monday night tradition without her.
