This installment of DIY Hipster is going to show you how to put a little punk in your style. Guitar pick earrings can complement any outfit, but they can also be expensive. So, you can spend $14.99 at Hot Topic for a mass-produced pair or you can do it yourself for less than one dollar.
Supplies:
Assorted Picks ~ .10 each
Round link findings ~ .03 each
Fish hook findings ~ .05 each
1/16″ Craft Punch $4.79
Step One: Choose two picks that are identical or mix and match. Use four corresponding picks for chandelier style earrings. Medium gauges work best for crafting. Tip: You can find super cheap assortments on eBay.
Step Two: Punch a hole in each pick. If the picks are thin enough, you can punch both at one time. Try to keep the placement of the holes equal. Tip: Keep the hole at least 1/8″ from the edge to avoid splitting the pick.
Step Three: Thread a round link through the hole of each pick. This will allow the earrings to dangle. Add four or more links for a long, chain look. Feel free to use beads or glitter shapes for some extra pizazz.
Step Four: Attach a fish hook finding to each of the round links. Wear with attitude. Tip: Be creative. You can use color, crimps or wire to add more personality to your earrings. Use custom picks for a classy look.
