The third and final candidate of the College of Education’s dean search will make her case to University officials and community members during a campus visit today and Wednesday.
Fayneese Miller, currently dean of the University of Vermont’s College of Education and Social Services, will also give a public presentation today at 2 p.m. in the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Ford Lecture Hall. The two previous candidates, Ohio superintendent Susan Zelman and current University education dean Michael Bullis gave their own presentations earlier this month.
Bullis served as interim dean during the 2005-06 school year. When a search for his replacement failed, he agreed to continue with a two-year term in the same position in 2006.
Bullis said having served in the position before has given him a large advantage going into the application process.
“It’s been a heck of an on-the-job training,” he said. “I was blissfully unaware of the nuances of the college when I was hired.”
Bullis earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Purdue University, and he received a Ph.D. in special education and rehabilitation from the University in 1983.
Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hampton University in 1977. She later earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Texas Christian University, and a post-doctorate degree in applied social psychology from Yale University.
