Zombies have rights too.
Members of the Undead Citizen’s Alliance, a zombie rights activism group, protested the Lord Leebrick Theatre’s latest production last night.
The Theatre is presenting an all-zombie version of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” called “Or Not to Be,” and the Alliance is outraged that living actors have been cast in zombie roles.
The Undead Citizen’s Alliance called to all of its MySpace friends to “show up in true and open their eyes.”
Zombie protesters met at the Eugene Public Library and hobbled through the streets toward the theater.
According to a press release by Beth Olson, the University Theatre’s Marketing Coordinator, Alliance members hope to bring attention to the show and end discrimination against the undead in the performing arts.
“Or Not to Be” was adapted by associate professor John Schmor.
The play will run until June 1, playing on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
There will also be two matinees on May 18 and June 1.
According to the Lord Leebrick press release, “Or Not to Be” has made Shakespeare surprising and new again.
“By taking a bite out of Bardolotry, we aim to bring Hamlet to life as a new entertainment for audiences ready for something different,” it says.
