The College of Education’s search for a new dean will begin today with the visit of the first of three candidates being considered for the position.
Susan Zelman, currently superintendent of the Ohio Department of Education, will be on campus today and tomorrow for interviews and meetings. As part of the visit she’ll give a public presentation today at 1:30 p.m. in the Knight Library Browsing Room. The presentation will be followed by an open question and answer session.
Zelman earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Hunter College in New York City in 1968. She later completed a master’s in education and a doctorate in philosophy and education, both from the University of Michigan.
Current education dean Michael Bullis was appointed to a two-year term in September 2006, after taking over as interim dean in 2005.
