Oregon Daily Emerald: People look at golf as an individual sport. You guys are obviously competing as a team. Do you feel like you’re on a team?
Kendra Little: In high school it was a little different, but in college we end up spending a lot more time together. Even out there on the course we’re talking to each other between holes and it’s just nice to know that there are people that have your back out there.
ODE: There’s always that debate about whether golfers are really athletes. Are you an athlete?
KL: Definitely, 100 percent.
ODE: What kind of workouts do you have to do to stay in shape for golf?
KL: Right now we work on our core, you know, abs, lower back, sides, hips and our conditioning. That might sound a little weird, but you have to be in pretty good shape to have a 40-pound bag on your back walking for four miles and still be able to swing the club well and focus in on the shots you need to make.
ODE: I know you are still just a freshman, but any thoughts on what you might be leaning towards majoring in?
KL: I am still undeclared, but I guess I’m probably leaning toward business.
ODE: What classes are you taking this term?
KL: Right now I’m taking Biology, Music 125 and Business 101.
ODE: Which is your favorite?
KL: I would have to say music, probably. I’m really interested in classical music from the 14th and 15th centuries. I like listening to it.
ODE: When you’re not in class, on the course, or doing homework, how do you relax and unwind?
KL: I’m a pretty big music and movie junkie. I really like going to movies at the theater. You can usually always find me with my headphones in my ears, or just kicking back watching a movie.
ODE: Do you have any sort of pre-game ritual to get you ready for your round?
KL: Not really. What I do before a round really kind of depends on who is around me. One thing I do to clear my mind before I hit a shot is say to myself, “I can do all things through Christ…” Here in college, you know, I’ve really started to get in touch with my spiritual side more, and that’s something I do to just clear my head a little bit before a shot.
