Oregon seniors Patrick Chung and Nick Reed were named by the Football Writers Association of America to the watch list for next season’s Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the best defensive player in college football.
Chung led the Ducks in tackles last season with 117 – the most tackles by an Oregon defensive back in 13 years. Chung was named to the All-Pacfic-10 Conference first team and second team All-American for his performance during the season.
Reed, who led the Pac-10 with 12 sacks and 22.5 tackles for a loss, is also on the watch list for the 2008 Lott Trophy, an award that honors the nation’s defensive players in terms of performance and character. Reed also made ESPN’s Academic All-American team in 2007.
Former Oregon defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was one of the finalists for the award in 2006.
