After some confusion with the scheduling of Sunday’s contest versus Western Oregon University, the men’s club soccer team was unable to play a game this week. The game might be rescheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, but it is uncertain at this point. The Ducks’ next scheduled game is at Oregon State University on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Equestrian
The University equestrian team had a strong showing at the IHSA Horse Show in Corvallis this weekend with several top finishers. Sophomore Corie Townsend led the way, winning the high-point award for her victories in novice huntseat equitation over fences class, as well as the flat class. Townsend also took home first place in her western equitation class. Graduate student Liz Perry and sophomore Christina Barth each took first in their respective events, while junior Kaley Fought took home second and freshman Maile Reinche placed third. On Saturday, senior team coordinator Stephanie Land placed third in the reining division, which she improved upon and placed second in on Sunday.
Surfing
The University club surfing team spent the weekend on the South Coast surfing near Brookings-Harbor, and in Crescent City, Calif. The team departed Friday night to a campsite near Brookings-Harbor. The team, which comprises 10 men and one woman, spent most of Saturday surfing head to head-and-a-half sized waves. (The term “head” refers to the height of the wave being as tall if not taller than the height of the head on your body). On Sunday, they experienced “some of the best surf so far this winter,” team coordinator Matt Hundhammer said. The swells reached six feet and higher throughout the day.
Table Tennis
With a very young team all around, the club table tennis squad gained valuable experience at Saturday’s divisional meet. Yul Lee, the team’s No. 1 player, picked up a victory in singles, as well as a doubles victory with his partner Boyu Cao. No. 3 Ian Fischer also won a singles match. The team will next compete at the second divisional meet, which will be held in February with the winner moving on to the national tournament.
