Randy Papé, the former volunteer chairperson for Campaign Oregon: Transforming Lives, died Thursday, Nov. 6 of a heart attack at the age of 58.
In a statement to the University community last Friday, University President Dave Frohnmayer expressed his gratitude for Papé’s support and commitment to the University.
“I was deeply distressed and saddened to hear of the passing of our great friend and ally, Randy Papé,” Frohnmayer wrote. “Randy’s commitment to the UO stretched over a lifetime … The University is a better place because of Randy’s involvement.”
Papé graduated from the University in 1972 with a business degree, according to OregonLive.com.
Frohnmayer said Papé made several generous philanthropic contributions to the University, including donations to athletics, the Lundquist College of Business, and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. He also served on the UO Foundation Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2005 before chairing Campaign Oregon, the University’s $600 million fundraising effort.
Memorial services have not been finalized.
Papé is survived by his wife, three sons and six grandchildren, according to OregonLive.com.
