The first woman to cross the North and South Poles will be honored at the College of Arts and Sciences’ Profiles in Achievement banquet tonight.
Ann Bancroft, a life-long explorer, graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Science in physical education in 1981.
She chronicled a 1,717-mile journey across Antarctica with her exploring partner, Liv Arnesen, in the book “No Horizon is So Far.”
Bancroft also founded a non-profit organization to promote courage and risk-taking in girls.
The College of Arts and Sciences has been honoring alumni who have distinguished themselves in a variety of fields since 1995 with the Alumni Fellows award.
“We are happy to recognize our Alumni Fellows who have attained outstanding achievements in their lives and careers,” said Sarah Bungum, the assistant director of donor and alumni relations of the College of Arts and Sciences. Also honored this year are Rosanna Bowles and Dave Petrone.
The Profiles in Achievement Awards Banquet will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Willamette Hall Atrium.
