University students feeling the pinch in their wallets this holiday season may be able to indulge in the arts after all.
The Hult Center for the Performing Arts launched its pilot program, $10 College Tix, in September to draw more college students to certain events. The program will offer full-time students from accredited colleges and universities the opportunity to purchase tickets to particular events at a discounted price of $10.
A group of University students proposed the idea so they could experience more of the arts. Marketing managers from Hult Presents and the Center’s Resident Companies responded by initiating the program.
UPCOMING EVENTSStudents can attend the following shows with the $10 College Tix discount: Eugene Symphony: Symphonie Fantastique Thursday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. Chamber Music@Beall: Aulos Ensemble with Julianne Baird Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. Eugene Concert Choir: Mason Williams Holiday Show Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. |
Eight community arts programs are participating in the special deal, allowing students easier and more affordable access to live entertainment, according to Hult Center’s Web site.
Greg Bach, a Hult Center box-office specialist, said the discounted rates will apply only to specialized shows. “It’s a really good deal because some of the savings are astronomical,” he said. “You can get a $40 ticket for $10.”
Students can purchase tickets at the Hult Center Ticket Office and the University ticket office in the EMU with valid student identification. Students can also purchase tickets online at Hultcenter.org or by telephone at (541) 682-5000.
Bach said this is the first year the Hult Center has created an extended version of discounted student tickets that will last throughout the venue’s fiscal year.
“Students should be aware of what a great deal this is,” Bach said. “I’d be down here every night seeing just about everything if I was a student. I mean, that’s as cheap as a movie.”
The participating programs are the Hult Center’s internal program Hult Presents, Eugene Ballet Company, Eugene Concert Choir, Eugene Opera, Eugene Symphony, Oregon Bach Festival, Oregon Mozart Players and the University’s Chamber Music@Beall series.
