The duck hat
Supplies
? One yellow or white baseball cap: $1 to $14.99 (Hirons, Dollar Tree, or consignment shops)
? Four pieces of felt – one white, one black and two orange: $1 (Hirons)
? One large pair of google eyes: 50 cents or less (Ben Franklin Crafts)
? Hot glue gun, Yes Glue, staples, or needle and thread: Varied (Ben Franklin Crafts or borrow from crafty friends)
? Scissors
? Pencil
? Sharpie marker
Step One
With a pencil or Sharpie, trace the outline of your cap’s bill – the duck beak – on two pieces of orange felt, making sure to flatten it first for an accurate measurement. Cut the two pieces, trimming off Sharpie marks.
Step Two
Apply the orange beak with glue, staples or a needle and thread. Attach one piece to the top of the bill and the other only at the bill’s underneath rim, so it drapes like an open mouth.
Step Three
Trace and cut eyeballs from the white and black felt, or attach google eyes with glue. For the felt eyeballs, make the black circles smaller than the white so they look like pupils.
Allow sufficient glue-drying time, if necessary, and consider further hat embellishments or variations soon to be detailed on the Pulse blog, Pizazz. Also, check out the multimedia piece on dailyemerald.com.
