ASUO President Sam Dotters-Katz will not act as chairman of the Oregon Student Association’s board of directors at their August meeting. Summer Senate Chairwoman Carina Miller will take his place.
Dotters-Katz asked the Summer Senate committee last week to choose who would replace him and lead what is generally a four- to seven-hour meeting of statewide student body presidents and their legislative advisers.
The Senate, or more accurately Sen. Mike Latteri, chose Miller over Sen. Nick Schultz. Both wanted to chair the meeting, and Latteri, the only other member of Summer Senate, had to break the tie.
ASUO Vice President Johnny Delashaw chuckled while Latteri seemed to struggle about which member to choose, citing Miller’s experience and Schultz’ ambition.
Miller said she wanted to chair the meeting to ensure that issues of importance to the Oregon Students of Color Coalition would be heard.
Latteri asked Schultz to attend the meeting with him anyway. Many senators will be on hand for the association’s annual retreat the same weekend.
Dotters-Katz said that he had to miss the meeting for family reasons that had nothing to do with his decision to not hire a new OSA campus organizer.
He will attend the September board meeting, he said.
