The first of four candidates up for the position of College of Arts and Sciences dean is visiting campus this week, and students wishing to contribute may attend a presentation and open forum Wednesday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Knight Library Browsing Room.
“It’s a campus-wide decision,” said economics professor Larry Singell, search committee chairman. “And while the provost is the person who makes the decision, input from the complete campus will help her make that decision. If students are willing to come and participate and give Linda Brady their opinion, that would be great.”
Scott Coltrane arrived on campus today from the University of California, Riverside and will meet with various administrators through Thursday.
The remaining three candidates will visit campus throughout the month, and if one is selected, he or she will fill the position Interim Dean Wendy Larson has occupied since July 2006. Economics professor Joe Stone left his nine-year post as CAS dean “to pursue other directions, (and) for the college to seek new leadership as well,” he said. Stone is currently teaching classes and conducting research.
The new dean should begin in July.
