Preseason tickets not a done deal
I would like to clarify the information in the ODE article, “Preseason tickets no longer available for free” (March 14).
The information in the article is currently the offer on the table and negotiations are in progress. Nothing has been decided on this issue to date, and the four students on the Athletic Department Finance Committee are working hard to come to an agreement with the Athletic Department that is in the best interests of the students.
Students do not currently pay for the preseason tickets with incidental fees. Incidental fees only pay for conference games. The Athletic Department has provided preseason tickets free of charge to students for several years and feels it is no longer capable of doing this.
Fifty percent of the fair market value has been a benchmark for the amount that students would pay in incidental fees to the Athletic Department. Ticket prices are going up significantly next season for both football and men’s basketball games. The incidental fee allocated to the Athletic Department will not cover 50 percent of the fair market value. This is why the Athletic Department has offered to let students retain the seating for conference games during football season and basketball games and take away the preseason game football seats to increase their revenue.
If you would like more information, or would like to express your opinion to the ADFC about this issue, please e-mail the committee at [email protected].
