It is now two weeks after the opening of rifle hunting season for blacktail deer, but Weyerhaeuser officials still don’t know who trashed their Lane County forest property.
“We don’t have a total yet on how much damage was done, but it’s in the thousands,” said Mike Moskovitz, Weyerhaeuser spokesman.
On Oct. 4, vandals damaged gate locks and lock boxes, felled trees to block roads, shot up signs and removed parts from logging equipment. Most of the damage took place near Cottage Grove. Weyerhaeuser opens its lands, totaling 268,000 acres, annually to hunters.
