Oregon redistricting plan released
The Oregon Secretary of State’s office posted its redistricting plan for Oregon congressional boundaries online Monday.
Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. on July 31 at Eugene City Hall to receive input on the plan. It will be one of more than 20 such visits Bradbury will make throughout the state.
Every ten years, the state is required to adjust state Senate and House boundaries to census results. If the Legislature is unable to agree on new boundaries by July 1, the Secretary of State is assigned the task.
This year, the Legislature failed to pass a redistricting plan after Democrats boycotted the House for about a week in protest of a Republican plan to enact a reapportionment map without Gov. John Kitzhaber’s approval.
