A 26-year-old Eugene man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct early Saturday morning after he drunkenly yelled obscenities at several men in the residence halls and then ran from public safety officers, the man and Eugene police said.
Zebula Jason Hebert was arrested around 3:30 a.m. by Eugene police after he was detained by University Department of Public Safety officers, who originally talked to him near the natural history museum across East 15th Avenue from Bean Hall, Eugene Police Department spokeswoman Kerry Delf said.
He was placed in Lane County jail until Sunday at about noon, Hebert said.
Hebert said he “left the bar hammered” and was on the street near Bean Hall when several men from the residence hall yelled down at him. He yelled back, and the men came downstairs.
“I was being very loud and obnoxious, but there was never any physical fight,” he said. DPS officers arrived, at which point, Herbert said, he felt threatened and ran.
He then got too tired and realized he was drunk, so he stopped and put his hands up, he said. DPS then tackled, pepper sprayed and cuffed him, he said.
Delf said DPS used force, which included pepper spray, because he resisted officers. Medics arrived and flushed his eyes out, she said.
