The Oregon softball team breathed a sigh of relief Sunday as the Ducks picked up their first conference victory of the season, a 9-2 win over No. 8 Stanford (29-7 overall, 3-3 Pacific-10 Conference).
Oregon (18-13, 1-3) set the school’s single-game hits record with 16.
Seven players recorded at least two hits while two others had at least one.
Freshman pitcher Melissa Rice earned her first career conference victory, allowing two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Oregon scored six runs in the fourth inning to break open a 1-0 game. Kayleen Hudson stroked a solo home run. With two outs, the Ducks scored five runs, led by a bases-clearing triple by Breanne Sabol.
Sabol led the Ducks with four RBIs.
The win came after a 7-3 loss to Stanford Saturday.
Lovena Chaput hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to give Oregon a 3-2 lead, but the Ducks allowed five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Oregon’s game Friday against No. 7 California (34-4, 3-1) was suspended because of rain. It is rescheduled for when Cal visits Howe Field on April 29. The Ducks led 2-0 in the top of the third inning with the bases loaded and one out.
Oregon hosts Portland State Wednesday at 4 p.m.
