The 12th Holistic Options for Planet Earth Sustainability conference, which is developed and managed by students at the Ecological Design Center, will begin today with a keynote speech by world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban. Ban will deliver a lecture, “Beyond Paper and Curtain: Works and Humanitarian Activities,” in Columbia 150 at 4 p.m.
Ban is perhaps most famous for his development of paper tube structures, disaster relief works and refined aesthetic, according to a press release from the EDC.
Seating is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance through the University Ticket Office. The conference will continue on Friday on Saturday with workshops, panels and additional speakers.
HOPES, which is held every year at the University in April, promotes the understanding and application of sustainable design principles, according to the conference Web site.
