Oregon State Senate President Peter Courtney announced Monday that Sen. Vicki Walker will serve as chairwoman for the Senate’s Interim Committee on Natural Resources and Alternative Energy.
Walker, D-Eugene, will replace Sen. Frank Shields, D-Portland, as head of the committee. Shields said he is retiring from the Senate at the end of his term.
The committee is examining biofuels and nonpetroleum energy sources. Walker said she supports the effort to develop alternative sources of energy to create jobs and reduce dependence on foreign oil.
Courtney said Walker is one of the Senate’s hardest workers and works well with other legislators to get the job done.
