The student government body in charge of distributing student fees heard the budget requests for six student groups Monday before getting involved in a debate over OSPIRG’s controversial budget request.
These six groups had either appealed a previous Programs Finance Committee decision or were recalled to settle an outstanding issue.
The PFC granted the Career Center’s $46,183 request. The Career Center will receive $363,942 in incidental fees to help pay for employment resources for students. The Women’s Center a $5,609. The group will collect $152,368 in incidental fees next year. The Mentor Program a $10,389 increase. The group’s share of incidental fees next year will be $96,589.
The PFC granted Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Educational Support Services Program a $28,099 increase for a total budget of $50,827.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Alliance received a $1,307 for a total budget of $12,129 for next year.
MEChA, a student group focused on Chicano issues, appealed the PFC’s previous allocation to the group, requesting additional funds to pay for instruments and equipment for the indigenous roots musical group La Catrina. The PFC denied the appeal.
