Once every three weeks I find myself in a state of complete terror. Amy, the Pulse editor, looks to me while she is dolling out the week’s story assignments and utters the words I hate the most: “Drew, it’s your week to do the column.”
“No!” my brain screams. “Not the column; anything but the column!”
“Cool,” I reply, casually. “I think I may already have an idea.”
I don’t.
I spend the rest of the week racking my brain for a decent column idea. By the time Sunday rolls around I’m still searching.
The problem with the column is that I can write about anything entertainment related, which means my options are limitless: music, movies, television, games, theater, art or dance. I’m drowning in options.
So it’s Sunday again, stories are due Monday, and Microsoft Word is giving me that familiar blank gaze. It’s time for me to turn to you, the reader, and ask: What do you want to read? What interests you? What can I do to make your Thursday a little brighter?
I’m not just talking about the column. What do you want me to report on? What do you want reviewed?
To me, you are all just nameless faces. I see you on campus and wonder, “What does she listen to?” or “What was the last movie he saw?”
I know what public relations companies want you to read about; my e-mail inbox is barraged by everything from concert announcements to ads for jeans. Noticeably missing from my inbox are messages from you, my readers.
What do you want? Send me an e-mail. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
