The Craft Center and the Cultural Forum have teamed up to bring students the 26th annual “Family Album Art Show,” which is being shown in the Adell McMillan Gallery in the EMU.
The exhibit, which opened Feb. 13 and runs until March 22, features pieces from Craft Center instructors, students and staff.
“There are about 45 people represented and 105 pieces,” Laura Gerards, a program coordinator at the Craft Center, said.
The exhibit work highlights the several Craft Center workshops students can participate in. The exhibit includes photography, glass, ceramics, woodworking, fiber arts, jewelry, metalworking, stained glass, painting, drawing and more.
Craft Center instructor Logan Farrell’s desk “Happy as Larry,” named after a New Zealand expression that Gerards gave him, includes wood inlay work and sand-blasted glass.
“He started as a work-study student with us,” Gerards said. “He’s perfected his art.”
Farrell also has a cabinet and vases featured at the show. Gerards has reticulated jewelry and a monotype print at the show.
Drawings by undergraduate multimedia design student Dan Beyer are also featured at the show. “(Dan’s) one of those guys that keeps it all in his head and then when it comes out on paper it comes out in full force; he’s amazing,” said Gerards. “(His drawings) kind of look like an acid trip. It’s kind of like ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ on drugs.”
The Cultural Forum is gearing up for the Pacific Northwest Art Annual. Adam Howard, the visual arts coordinator for the Cultural Forum, said this year will be special.
“For the first time we are collaborating with the Lane Arts Council for a First Friday Art Walk on the University campus,” said Howard. “We are going to partner with all the galleries and all the museums on campus.”
The Pacific Northwest Art Annual will open April 6.
Students interested in attending workshops can check availability and register at the EMU Craft Center’s Web site at craftcenter.uoregon.edu. For information about the Cultural Forum check darkwing.uoregon.edu/~cultural.
