Madoka Momoi is the events coordinator for the ASUO Women’s Center and a double major in international studies and women’s and gender studies. The Emerald caught up with her as she was running to the first meeting for the upcoming performance of “The Vagina Monologues” on February 14.
ODE: So why are you working at the Women’s Center?
MM: I’m really passionate about women’s and gender studies, especially sexual violence.
ODE: What’s “The Vagina Monologues?”
MM: It’s a really interesting way to send a message. It’s a performance where women talk about sex and sexuality that aims to end sexual violence against everyone. It’s a spiritual experience. It’s relating to sex, like, vaginas obviously.
ODE: Where are you from?
MM: I’m from Tokyo originally, but I came as an exchange student to Pleasant Hill High School about 20 minutes outside of Eugene. It’s pretty countryside.
