The Oregon Wrestling team kicked off its season with a victory over the University of Wyoming Thursday, at the UniWyo Sports Complex, winning the dual meet 19-17.
All of the Oregon wins came by way of points, as all of their victories came in three-round matches, a testament to the Ducks conditioning.
“I was interested to see how our team would perform at 7,800 feet,” said coach Chuck Kearney in an Oregon release. “But it looked like our conditioning has really paid off.”
The meets’ only pin was earned by Wyoming’s Sam Wendland in the second round of his match against Oregon’s Chris Robertson at 197 pounds.
The winning Oregon wrestlers were: Beau Malia, 125 pounds, 11-3 over Nick Ramirez; Justin Pearch, 141 pounds, 9-4 over Garrett Desmond; Kyle Bounds, 157 pounds, 6-3 over Alex Rieder; Brian Cantrell, 165 pounds, 5-2 over Kyle Morrow; Tony Rolen, 184 pounds, 12-6 over Chet Slevin; Chris Dearmon, heavyweight, 5-0 over Jason Still.
Next up for Oregon wrestling is the Wyoming Open, Saturday, at War Memorial Fieldhouse in Laramie, Wyo.
