Eugeneans experienced unseasonably warm and dry weather Monday after extreme high pressure pushed a strong storm to northern Oregon.
After a flood warning was issued for most of the state Sunday night in anticipation of the storm, Eugene did not receive any measurable rain as of 5 p.m. Monday.
“The pressure has built up really high and pushed the rain to the north for now,” Charles Glaser of the National Weather Service said. “It almost looks more like July for the high pressure above us.”
Several cities north of Eugene received significant amounts of rain, including Seaside, which recorded a 24-hour rain total of six inches Monday evening.
Glaser said the high pressure also contributed to the unusually high temperature in Eugene, which reached a record high of 70 degrees Monday. The highest temperature was previously set at 69 degrees, recorded in 1939.
