Men’s Hockey
The Oregon club hockey team (3-1) lost to California (1-3) 8-7 late last Friday in Berkeley, Calif., but defeated the Golden Bears 10-4 the following night.
“We weren’t playing our normal game (on Friday),” said coordinator Jeff Gibb. “Saturday was the kind of game we anticipated. We were happy to come back and have a good game after Friday.”
Eric Steinmann registered his second four-goal game of the season in the win Saturday. Washington State felt his wrath first on Oct. 6, when he accounted for nearly half of Oregon’s scoring in a 9-2 trouncing.
“He has stepped up this year,” Gibb said. “He was always a play maker, but now he is stepping up and scoring.”
In game one, Billy Forrest knocked in two goals, Colton Clay contributed with one goal and one assist and Steinmann added one goal and one assist. Entering the third period, the Ducks trailed 7-4, and, despite a three-goal comeback, Oregon fell just short against its Pac-10 opponent.
Saturday, Steinmann again rose to the challenge with four goals and an assist in the victory. Joel Dunham registered one goal and two assists and Forrest slapped home two goals.
“The offense played well and the entire team tightened up defensively,” Gibb said.
The Ducks stay at home to battle the University of Idaho Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Lane County Ice Arena. Tickets are $2 for students and $5 for adults. In addition, the Eugene Generals Junior B team will be hosting its Second Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night Friday in a battle against the River City Jaguars before the Oregon-Idaho match. The game starts at 7:35 p.m. and proceeds from the event, which will be raised by auctioning limited edition pink jerseys the Generals wear on eBay, will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Men’s soccer
The winning streak lives on for the Oregon men’s club soccer team, but it came at a cost last Sunday.
The Ducks scraped out a 1-0 win over Central Oregon Community College Sunday in Bend, Ore., and extended its winning streak to 26 games.
But junior Bryan Mikolaitis suffered a head injury that required five staples and Ross Anderson and Skyler Stevenson, both juniors, also had to exit prematurely with minor injuries, co-coach and co-coordinator Jason Modahl said.
Oregon only gave up two shots on goal, but struggled to find the back of the net themselves. Patrick Walro’s penalty kick ended up being the lone and decisive score.
Oregon next hosts Western Oregon University on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Southern Oregon University Sunday at 1 p.m.
