Why do you place the block creations on campus? Well, this year it’s more because I just want to do nothing. I think it’s healthy to take some time away from the day and have it to yourself, and the blocks are what I do during that time. Plus, it’s fun to watch people.
How long have you been doing it? Since last year.
Where did the idea come from? I was taking this class, and I just decided to play with my mega blocks. And for some reason I decided to play outside, and it was a lot of fun. I got to meet a lot of my friends. Then, after that I decided to use that outside playing as a project for the next term in a class. I thought, “I really enjoy doing this, so I might as well try to make something of it.”
What kinds of responses do you get? This year it’s a little different. This year it’s like, “I’m glad you’re still doing this.” But most of the comments are like, “Why are you doing this?” or “What’s it for?” Since I did it last year, some people are like, “Thanks for doing this again. It makes my day to see these things.”
What’s the strangest response you’ve received? The strangest happening was with this one lady. She actually put a pastry in front of one of the things I built.
What kinds of things do you build? Usually an animal, mostly a giraffe. Very rarely, something generic.
Will you continue using blocks? Yeah, I sort of do want to continue doing this throughout the rest of my life. I do plan to do it every day this year as long as people don’t steal them. That would be sort of sad.
