The Oregon women’s golf team played its last tournament of the fall and Kimberly McCready finished seventh overall after setting an Oregon record.
The Ducks finished sixth overall against a highly touted field at the Stanford Intercollegiate Friday through Sunday. Oregon beat out No. 2 Duke University and No. 3 UCLA. The top-six finish was the first for the Ducks since 1997, when the Ducks finished fourth.
McCready continued her lights-out streak at the Intercollegiate, finishing seventh. She also tied an Oregon record for a score in a round, shooting a 4-under-par 67 in the final round.
The senior was strong in the back nine, scoring four birdies, including three on par-3 holes . McCready’s stellar final round follows a 2-over-par 73 second round, when her two birdies were negated by four bogeys.
“Once I hit my tee shot on one, I knew I had my swing going,” McCready said in a University press release. “With this deep a field, I definitely needed to step up my game, and I knew that eventually my putts would start to fall.”
Cathryn Bristow also finished in the top 20, shooting even par on her final two rounds to move up the leaderboard. Bristow ended with a 3 over par, as she managed to tie for 13th.
Bristow shot her worst round on day one when she recorded a double bogey on 6 en route to a 3 over for the round.
Felicia Eastick shot a 9 over par in the opening round, but improved on both of her final two rounds to finish the tournament tied for 40th.
Fellow freshman Kate Hildahl shot 18 over for her tournament. Hildahl had up-and-down rounds throughout the Intercollegiate. She managed to sink at least two birdies every round.
Senior Therese Wenslow had her second consecutive lackluster finish in as many tournaments. Wenslow struggled, adding a shot to her scorecard after every round.
University of Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis and Arizona’s Alison Walshe tied for first after shooting 2-under-par 69 on their final rounds. The two edged out a pair of golfers that finished one shot behind them.
Both Lewis and Walshe shot four birdies in the final round to stay ahead of the pack.
The Ducks don’t compete again until the spring season.
