A major upgrade to University’s e-mail system, intended to provide users with better performance and allow for future growth, will cause e-mail to be unavailable for a short period of time at the end of the month.
Microcomputer Services has scheduled a planned outage for Sept. 1 starting at 10 p.m. and expects e-mail to be unavailable for approximately 24 hours, but if the department runs into unexpected problems, it could be inaccessible into Sunday morning. The work will affect the uoregon.edu e-mail and UO Webmail services.
Nevertheless, messages sent to the system during the outage will be stored and delivered once maintenance is complete. Campus wireless systems, Blackboard and Duckweb access will not be affected. Maintenance progress can be monitored at http://status.uoregon.edu/.
Microcomputer Services is also asking members of University community who are using the defunct Darkwing server to display web pages on a pair of new Web-based servers. Users should confirm that their Web sites will display correctly in preparation for a scheduled November switch to the new servers, although most won’t need to make any changes, according to the press release.
