The UO Asklepiads Pre-Med Society is hosting a table tennis tournament this Sunday, and all proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The tournament will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in 220 Gerlinger, with a $5 entry fee. The money raised will be used by the MDA to assist scientific research for those affected with muscular dystrophy.
The Asklepiads Pre-Med Society is close partners with the MDA. So far this term the society has put on a bake sale, and plans to organize a campus-wide ultimate Frisbee tournament next term to raise more money for the MDA.
Society President Brian Truong wrote in an e-mail that he and another board member perform undergraduate research on myotonic dystrophy, the most common form of muscular dystrophy, on a daily basis. The society also plans to volunteer at clinics and MDA-sponsored events to extend its support by organizing meetings with those who live with the disease.
For those interested in participating in the fundraising efforts, the society’s next meeting is Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in 11 Pacific. People can access the group’s Web site at www.uoregon.edu/~premed.
Those interested in entering the tournament can e-mail Truong at [email protected].
