A 26-year-old, possibly suicidal woman jumped from the third story of a parking structure near campus Thursday, sending her to the emergency room and shutting down traffic between East 11th and East 13th avenues for less than 30 minutes, Eugene Police Department spokeswoman Kerry Delf said.
The woman sat with her legs dangling off the edge of the third floor of a parking structure at East 12th Avenue and Patterson Street while authorities and medics were summoned to the scene, according to a press release from the Eugene Police Department. Officers tried to talk the woman out of the possibly fatal leap, but she ignored them and jumped at about 2:25 p.m., landing on the sidewalk below.
The woman was rushed from the parking structure, directly adjacent to Sacred Heart Medical Center, to the emergency room for treatment of her injuries, Delf said.
She broke several bones, but her injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening, a hospital staff member said.
