Philadelphian Garrett Dutton, aka G. Love, will be playing two Oregon shows with his band the Special Sauce, made up of Jim “Jimi Jazz” Prescott on upright bass, and Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens on drums.
G. Love and Special Sauce released “The Hustle,” their sixth studio album, in August 2004. It’s a record that focused on booty calls, love and becoming a father. G. Love has said his lyrics on the most recent album were directed at how life really is for him instead of how he’d like it to be.
The trio has been blending a wide array of genres, including funky blues, R&B and folk, with a laid-back style since 1994. During the mid-1990s, they became popular with songs like “Cold Beverages” and “Baby’s Got Sauce.”
The trio, which emulates Bob Dylan and John Lee Hooker, plans on releasing another album in the spring.
G. Love and Special Sauce will play Friday at the McDonald Theatre at 1010 Willamette St. in Eugene with opening act That 1 Guy.
A one-man-show, That 1 Guy plays music ranging from heavy metal to folk on a homemade upright bass contraption.
Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at the EMU Ticket Office, the McDonald box office or through TicketsWest for $17.50, or for $20 at the door.
