A University freshman was arrested Friday at Walton Complex and charged with two counts each of burglary and theft for allegedly stealing laptops from other students, according to a Eugene Police Department press release.
Ryan James Thomas, 19, had at least three stolen laptops in his Schafer Hall room, and EPD and Department of Public Safety officers identified two as having been stolen from the residence halls earlier in the year, EPD spokeswoman Kerry Delf said.
DPS officers were investigating a lead about a laptop stolen on campus last month, and they contacted Thomas, a pre-business major, around noon in his room, according to the release. The officers found Thomas in possession of that laptop and two others, the release stated.
Thomas was lodged at Lane County Adult Corrections Friday and was released by Sunday afternoon.
