The number of reported mumps cases in Lane County this year has increased by 30 persons in the past month, reaching 38 confirmed cases, according to Lane County Public Health.
Health officials are encouraging local health care providers to test for mumps when patients show
systems and also report all confirmed mumps outbreaks to Public Health.
Health officials are also warning anyone who suspects they have contracted the mumps to call the hospital or doctor’s office before arrival to make arrangements for how the patient will be admitted into the facility in order to minimize the threat of
spreading the virus.
Symptoms of the mumps, a viral infection of the salivary glands, include fever, headache, muscle ache and swelling of the glands close to the jaw.
