University President Dave Frohnmayer approved Monday the proposed site for the future Alumni Center. The center will be built along Franklin Boulevard at Agate Street.
The Alumni Center will provide a welcome center, an eastern gateway to the University, and will house headquarters for the Alumni Association, the University Foundation and Office of Development.
The Alumni Center Campaign Committee is currently collecting private donations. The drive was launched by University Alumni Association President Cheryl Ramberg Ford, who made the initial $5 million donation.
The next step in planning is to hire an architect. The Campus Planning Office will send out requests for proposals, which are documents that explain the project and how it will appear. Architects will submit proposals back to the office and a user group will choose an architect.
The user group is made up of representatives from neighboring buildings, the campaign committee and the campus planning committee. The group will interview candidates and ultimately decide on the architect.
