I was a little surprised at “Students Could Save if Textbook Plan is Approved” (ODE April 3, 2007).
Don’t get me wrong, I support lower textbook prices. Who doesn’t?
I just think that Jonathan Rosenberg’s textbook resolution is just like when he proposed that the Student Senate take a stance on Iran’s nuclear status: It’s a lot of talk but doesn’t make meaningful change for students.
Rosenberg’s textbook resolution won’t make real change; it won’t solve the underlying problem of textbook publishers hiking up prices. Ultimately, students will still be paying astronomical amounts each term to buy their books.
I’m supporting Ari Lesser and Phil Wood for ASUO Exec, because we need candidates that will do more than just talk about making change. Ari and Phil care about making sure that this campus is more accessible to students who care about recycling and energy conservation, and while they don’t have a ballot measure for us to vote on, I trust that they have a plan to make campus more sustainable.
Don’t be fooled by yet another meaningless resolution. Vote Ari and Phil this week on Duckweb.
