At least these Ducks are battle tested.
The No. 16 Oregon softball team finished up a stretch of seven straight conference road games, losing to No. 12 UCLA and twice to No. 11 Washington this weekend.
The Ducks (39-14, 4-11 Pacific-10 Conference) went 1-6 on its longest road trip of the season, with the one win coming last Wednesday at No. 13 Oregon State.
Oregon remains in seventh place in the Pac-10, just ahead of California.
Following the victory against the Beavers, the Ducks lost 8-0 at UCLA on a five-hit, complete-game effort from Bruins’ pitcher Megan Langenfeld on Friday.
Oregon fell 6-4 Saturday to the Huskies. The Ducks, trailing 3-2 in the fifth, took the lead on a two-run home run by Ann Marie Topps. But Washington rallied back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and one in the sixth to pick up the victory.
Redshirt freshman Jenn Salling finished the game 2 for 2 with a home run and two walks.
Oregon managed just one hit on Sunday in an 8-0 loss to the Huskies and pitcher Danielle Lawrie (21-8).
Lawrie, who struck out 15 Oregon batters in the Huskies’ first meeting against the Ducks this season in Eugene, ran her record against Oregon to a perfect 5-0 by working six innings, allowing the one hit to Oregon’s Joanna Gail, and striking out 10.
Oregon pitcher Melissa Rice (21-12) did not fare as well. The sophomore made her 8th, 9th and 10th-straight starts this weekend with junior ace Alicia Cook unable to play due to illness. Rice has made appearances now in 19 straight games. She allowed 21 hits and surrendered 13 runs in the three games, picking up the loss in each contest.
