Three former Oregon standouts were selected in the 2007 NFL Draft on Sunday.
Dayton, Ore. native Dante Rosario, an H-back/tight end at Oregon, was the first among Duck hopefuls taken when the Carolina Panthers selected him with the 18th pick (155th overall) in the fifth round.
Defensive tackle Matt Toeaina was the 13th pick (187th overall) in the sixth round by the Cincinnati Bengals, and wide receiver Jordan Kent went to the Seattle Seahawks on the 36th (210th overall) pick in the sixth round.
This is the first year since 2001 Oregon has not had at least one player selected in the first four rounds.
Center Enoka Lucas, projected by some to be taken in the fourth round, was not selected.
Sabby Piscitelli, Oregon State’s standout safety, was the first player taken from the state. He was the 64th overall pick and the 32nd pick of the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Offensive tackle Adam Koets was the only other Oregon State player to be drafted when he went as the 15th pick (189th overall) in the sixth round to the New York Giants.
Former Western Oregon tight end Kevin Boss became just the second player ever drafted from the Div. II Wolves and the second player from the state taken in this year’s draft when the New York Giants took him in the fifth round with the 16th pick (153rd overall), two ahead of Rosario.
Portland State’s Adam Hayward was selected in the sixth round with the eighth pick (182nd overall) by Tampa Bay.
