Eugene police are continuing their investigation of the Brian Reams hit-and-run case, but are releasing few details. A driver struck and killed Reams, a 22-year-old University student from Pocatello, Idaho, last month.
“At this point the investigation is continuing actively, but we can’t give much of an update,” Eugene police spokeswoman Kerry Delf said, citing that the case is ongoing.
Delf said police do have “some suspect information,” but she wouldn’t elaborate.
“The investigation has not been wrapped up to the point where we can make an arrest at this time,” Delf said.
She said the Oregon State Police forensic lab is processing physical evidence related to the case, and EPD is waiting on those results. Delf wouldn’t say what the evidence was.
“At this point, the next steps are pending,” she said.
Eugene police spokeswoman Melinda Kletzok previously told the Emerald the case would likely go to the district attorney. The district attorney will then decide what charges, if any, will be pressed.
Assistant District Attorney Alex Gardner could not be reached by press time.
Debra Reams, Brian’s mother, said she is not frustrated with the investigation.
“I know they’re working on it,” she said.
Businesses and individuals have donated $40,000 in the name of Brian Reams to build a new gym at Holy Spirit Catholic School in Pocatello, Idaho, Debra Reams said.
Debra teaches at the school, and Brian attended Holy Spirit. The gym will likely showcase a plaque or trophy case in Brian’s name.
The school hopes to receive $500,000 to build the gym.
Donations can be sent to the Brian Reams Memorial Fund, 718 S. Second Ave., Pocatello, Idaho, 83204.
