Bass Fishing
Duck club bass fisher Chris Parks took first place in two categories Saturday in a Boat versus Non-Boat Tournament at Cottage Grove Reservoir.
Eight Oregon club bass fishers took on eight members of the Emerald Bass Club – which had the boats – in warm conditions, coordinator Gregory Crowl said.
Parks’ batch of fish proved best in the Heaviest Three Fish category, and one from his yield earned him Big Fish honors.
The Ducks next cast out at Dorena Lake in Cottage Grove to battle against at least two other clubs on June 2.
Women’s Rugby
Nine members of the Oregon women’s club rugby squad traveled to the Select Side Camp in Redmond, Wash., this weekend to practice with the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union’s Representative Side, The Loggers.
The Loggers compete for the Grizzly Shield, a competition slating other local area Unions from the Pacific Coast against each other.
Club coordinator Kara Winek said the group will compete against the Northern California team and the Utah/Nevada squad in Portland on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Ducks will try and land a spot on the U-23 Grizzly Select Time Team.
Cricket
Short a player, the Ducks’ club cricket team still only lost by three runs to HP Corvallis on Saturday in Corvallis.
Oregon posted 92 runs in 15 overs (all-out) without its wicket player, which forced club coordinator Vijay Thangarasa to keep and bowl. HP Corvallis responded by recording 95 runs in 19.2 overs (four wickets).
Thangarasa, who registered a team-high 23 runs, said the Ducks’ batting side wasn’t great, but their bowling side – consisting of six bowlers – was superb.
Oregon next battles against the Saber Stallions this Saturday at 11 a.m. Climbing
The Oregon climbing team traveled to Terrebonne, Ore. over the weekend to participate in a community service event at Smith Rock State Park. The squad joined around 140 volunteers to clean up trash, maintain the trail, build retaining walls, do erosion control work and plant. On Sunday, the Ducks climbed routes.
