Former Oregon football standout Ahmad Rashad was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2007 , the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday.
Rashad, formerly Bobby Moore, was a a two-time All-America running back and wide receiver for the Ducks from 1969-71, setting 14 Oregon records in his career. Those included single game (249), season (1,211) and career (2,306) rushing yards and number of receptions for a season (54) and for a career (131).
Moore was also the only player in two different positions to lead the conference in scoring.
“My college experience was one of the greatest experiences of my entire life,” Rashad said in a release. “Eugene was a wonderful place to try to find yourself as a person and my time there was something I’ll always cherish.”
Rashad joins former Ducks J.W. Beckett (1913-16), John Kitzmiller (1928-30), Norm Van Brocklin (1947-48), Mel Renfro (1961-63) and former coach Len Casanova (1951-66) in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Rashad, a sportscaster since 1983 and now the host for such shows as NBA’s Inside Stuff, will be inducted at the National Football Foundation’s 50th Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4 in New York City.
Rashad was drafted fourth overall by St. Louis in the 1972 NFL Draft and played 10 years in the NFL, including six with the Minnesota Vikings.
He was named to the NFC all-Rookie team, earned four trips to the Pro Bowl and one to the Super Bowl in 1977.
Rashad joins 11 other players in the class of 2007, highlighted by former Boston College and NFL quarterback Doug Flutie. Two coaches, including current Penn State coach Joe Paterno, also will be honored.
