Nicole Garbin’s back. But this time, the graduating Oregon soccer queen will be holding court between the goal posts when the Ducks close their spring season with an exhibition game against the Seattle Crossfire Sounders at home this Saturday.
Garbin gets to play in net against former Oregon standout Chalise Baysa. Garbin supplanted Baysa in the record books when her 34 career goals at the end of last season gave her the school scoring record previously held by Baysa.
The most prolific striker in Oregon soccer history was pressed into action after the Ducks lost their two goalkeepers within two days of each other at the beginning of the spring season.
Oregon’s backup goalkeeper Emily Zaler tore her MCL in practice, and starter Jessie Chatfield broke her left arm when she collided with a charging attacker’s outstretched cleat in the Ducks’ 2-0 defeat to Portland in April.
Aside from the unfortunate loss of both goalkeepers, the Ducks appear to have picked up right where they left off at the end of the fall –
After a series of injuries, Garbin will fill in at goalie for Ducks in spring
