Several students successfully broke into Lillis Business Complex on Monday while the buildings were shut down because of a bomb threat made Saturday afternoon.
Richard Turkiewicz, Department of Public Safety Director, said students were entering the building throughout the morning despite obvious signs and guards. When approached by officers, the students simply said they ignored the signs.
Turkiewicz doesn’t know exactly how students entered the building, but said it is difficult to patrol each and every one of the complex’s many entrances and exits. He said it is in the students’ best interest not to enter the complex.
“We’re trying to get some personal responsibility,” Turkiewicz said.
Turkiewicz also noted his gratitude for students’ patience throughout this entire ordeal.
“We basically want to thank students for all their understanding,” he said, “and also thank the individual who basically alerted us to the incident.”
